I had the most amazing experience yesterday.
I finished performing for a birthday party. As I was packing up my props, a 7 year old girl came to talk to me. As we were talking her father said, "A Magician doesn't reveal the secret.". She responded by saying, "That would take away the gift".
This is probably the best I've ever heard it described. Magic is a gift. It's a gift of wonder and amazement. A good magician works tirelessly through countless hours of practice to give this gift of wonder and amazement to his/her/their audience. Why would I want to take that away from my audience by exposing the secret to the trick?
